Old & New

Old New

Old table - this is the only pic I could find of the old table.  It is a great example of why it broke in the first place!

Justin varnishing our new smaller teak tabletop.  Justin cut the edges for easy in and out and the smaller table makes it easier to lounge on those settees now.

Old panel pic - unfortunately you can't see it too well or how boring it was to appreciate the great job Justin has done with the new one.  You can see that we never used the book shelf though! New panel.  We had to treat some rust behind the old one.  We chucked the book shelf making more bunk space.  Justin nailed the individual strips of wood you see to a plain sheet of wood behind.  We have curtains but they aren't up yet.
Did I mention we had to sleep in the salon for a while?  We went back and forth with insulation options but in the end went with Styrofoam sheets that we glued onto the hull.  Spray insulation surrounds the Styrofoam. The Slaves

A few months after this pic of the old galley was taken, the middle of the countertop started bowing in the center.  Every time it got wet it got worse.

New Galley!  New sink - note the depth!  New oven, new cabinets (teak), new spice rack, new counters that aren't rotting!

I can't find a picture of the old sink, which was VERY small, so here is a pic of the galley under construction instead! We plan to install a bar from one cupboard to the other to secure things in the middle but otherwise we are done!
Other side of galley.  The icemaker is now boxed in and has a tall 2 shelved bread vented bread cupboard next to it (it's dark but you can just see the door).
Old head - basin never fit properly and the shower was a hand held.  Cupboards were falling apart. The new forward head cabinets and sink!
The new shower and  shower curtain.  Now when someone has a shower the entire room doesn't have to get drenched - well, unless the kids are in there!
The only pic of the old instrument panel.  It was made of rotting wood (how nice) which eventually fell apart in Key West in the middle of a hair raising docking experience. The new instrument panel.  We can watch movies on the GPS screen whilst sailing - great for night watches!

New marine grade carpet which is surprisingly soft.  It has rubber backing and is repels water.  I don't have pictures of the old floors.  The old floor was/is oak strips that we have sealed and covered with carpet.  The carpet is wonderful and feels more like a home.  The kids love it.

New salon headliners.  I don't have pictures of the old ones as I never took a picture of the ceiling!

Replaced encroaching headliners.  They were literally falling down.
